The Short-Sleeved Suit Is Happening

Suits: the one article of men’s clothing that sees immense change season to season through different fabrics, fits, and price, and yet hardly changes at all. A jacket with lapels and bottoms in a matching fabric is basically all you need to constitute suitdome. But at Acne Studios’ Spring-Summer 2016 presentation, the Swedish brand introduced a new innovation to the tailoring game—short sleeves. Now, we’ve been relatively accustomed to the short-suit for a while thanks to Thom Browne , but this is territory that will take some careful consideration before we can get on board. For one, will this look insane to wear with a long-sleeved dress shirt? Does this automatically put one somewhere on the Don Johnson fashion spectrum? Will we get thrown out of a wedding for showing up in one of these? Are there savings involved with the whole half-sleeves thing? But if there does lie a GQ-approved way to rock the short-sleeved suit, it’s the same way we’d style any tailored gem for a casual weekend look: with a striped T-shirt and white canvas sneakers. Forever the un-weirders of the menswear community, they will bring this out-there suit back to earth.
